The Nubra Valley is located to the north of Leh Town, and the road leading there crosses the 18,380-foot-high Khardungla Pass (Khardongla), which is one of the highest motorable passes in the world and the highest in India. Ladorma, which means “valley of flowers,” was Nubra’s previous name.

The villages of Diskit, Turtuk and Hunder flaunt a large diversity in their gompas (monastries) and landscapes. The Maitreya Buddha Statue, Zamskhang Palace and Yarab Tso Lake are one of the best places in the entire world to hang a picture frame of with your family and friends. And finally, there cannot be a better show stopper than the sunset at the Hunder Desert.

Itinerary

Entering Nubra Valley through Khardung-La Pass. Enter Diskit, headquarters of Nubra Valley. Visit the picturesque mirror-like lake. Night stay at Diskit.

 

Freshening up at accommodations. Diskit Gompa (Monastery) visit. Lunch in Diskit, followed by a visit to the Maitreya Buddha statue. Head over to Sumur Village. Overnight stay at Sumur.

 

  • Freshening and starting the day with a visit to Samstanling Gompa. Detour to Tegar village. Lunch in Tegar. Visit Zamskhang palace. Rest at the palace. Next stop at Panamik Village hot springs. 20 minutes trek to Yarab Tso Lake. Back to Sumur accommodation for overnight stay.

Early start to Turtuk village. Visit the fields of Turtuk village. Visit Balti Heritage Museum. Visit the King in Royal Palace. Lunch in Turtuk. Post lunch, journey to the Hunder desert for sunset views. Back to Sumur accommodation.

Return journey after breakfast.
